He went to his first skate park when he was five, and has been skating nonstop ever since. Jack skates street, but is inspired by street and bowl skaters alike. His biggest influences are Andrew Reynolds, Kevin 'Spanky' Long, and Julian Depalma.

Meet Wesley Surette, Writer, Surfer and RESTOKER! August 9, 2017 22:05
Restokers, meet Wesley Surette, Cape Ann native, writer, surfer and friend. I had the good fortune of meeting Wesley, we immediately hit it off, like old friends that had reconnected. With a devotion for our home break, a love for good beer, strong coffee and shared many of the same friends, we were like brothers from another mother. Before Wesley headed off to start the next chapter of his life across the pond we persuaded him to write up a piece for RESTOKE, we think he nailed it. Enjoy, and Wes, we'll see you at the home break when you visit. ~ Cheers!
For surfers there are few things as sacred as their home break. I’m not talking about the one that, when you move, becomes your regular spot, but the one that you learned on. No matter where you end up or travel to, there will always be something special about this place. Knowing full well that in reality, this place is probably lack-luster, temperamental, and can’t hold a swell over 5 ft. But you defend it to your dying breath. Claiming that it is way better and more consistent than people might think. Of course those really good days are few and far between. In the case of my home break, they happen in sub-zero conditions, and yes, there is still a crowd. Despite all that, I love it and it will always be mine. My surfing home is Good Harbor in Gloucester, MA and I am getting ready to leave it forever.
Well, not forever. That is perhaps a bit dramatic. I’ll be back for a week here and there, a couple times a year. Still, I am going to miss Good Harbor more than almost anything that I am leaving behind. It has been there when things have been good and it has got me through some of the most difficult times in my life, none more so than this past couple years. Stuck in limbo oceans away from the person I love best, were it not for surfing, Good Harbor, and a certain friend over here at Restoke, I don’t know how I would have got through it. Were it not for freezing cold, knee-high dawn patrol sessions before the inevitable march to the office, it certainly would have been a march toward madness. Everything can seem like it is conspiring against you, but when you get a half decent swell that lines up perfectly with an incoming tide, things seem like they make sense again. Like the universe, or Poseidon, or whoever is giving you a break and wants you to get out there and have some fun even if only for the half hour you have before you have to snap back to the daily routine. It can be cleansing, like hitting a reset button.
One can argue that this happens no matter where one surfs, that it is the activity, not the place that has this effect. I think to some extent that is true, but really think about it. When you travel to surf and get a decent day, is it anywhere nearly as rewarding as when you pull up to your home break and it’s going off? Do you get the same feeling in your gut when you’re pulling on your wetsuit and anticipating that first wave? I don’t. I think that only where you grew up surfing, either physically or figuratively, can have that specific effect. Surfing and the ocean will always be cleansing no matter where you go, but sometimes you have to really recharge and come back to where you were baptized into the sport.
So as I get ready to start a new adventure and a new chapter in my life, I am really looking forward to finding a place where I can feel at home on the North Sea. I’m looking forward to making new friends and finding the little hidden spots. I’m excited and ready to move on, but there will always be something pulling me back. Of course friends and family are very important, but you better believe that when I am back in town, no matter what time of year or what the conditions are, my first and last stop will be in the water at Good Harbor.
Paddle for Plummer 2017 July 5, 2017 20:30
RESTOKE is excited to support the 4th Annual Paddle for Plummer, a Stand Up Paddle (SUP) charity event on July 8. 2017 which includes a fun paddle, as well as recreational, elite and amateur races. The races start and finish at the Plummer Youth Promise, a beautiful waterfront property located at 7 Winter Island Road, Salem, MA. In addition to SUP, event participants and spectators can expect to enjoy music, food, waterfront spinning, land and SUP yoga.
The Paddle for Plummer event was started by SUP East Coast Style owners, Leah and Christos Goodman, who wanted to give back to their community, and whom have raised thousands of dollars to benefit the Plummer Home Youth Promise. The Plummer Youth Promise mission is to help young people who leave the foster care or juvenile justice system without safe, stable, permanent family connections and often times face grim outcomes, including high rates of homelessness, unemployment, early parenting and lack of education. Plummer Youth Promise aims to change that by engaging families for each young person they serve while building their skills and community connections, and by sharing their knowledge with others.

Meet RESTOKER Mike Forgette, Vocalist/Rhythm Guitarist October 21, 2016 20:11
RESTOKERS, meet Mike Forgette, Lead Vocal and Rhythm guitarist for Over the Bridge (OTB), a Reggae-Rock infused jam band from Gloucester, MA. Michael’s passion and commitment to his music is what caught our attention and we thought we'd share his story of RESTOKE.
So… Without further ado, let Forgette introduce himself…
Tell us about your background, where are you from?
I was born and raised in Massachusetts on the island of Gloucester. Gloucester is a tight knit community where everyone knows everyone, growing up there was both a gift and a curse. You couldn't get away with anything but the love and support from my family, friends and my city has made a world of difference in my life especially since I began this journey pursuing my passion in music.
When did you first start singing? Do you play any instruments?
Believe it or not, I actually fell in love with music and began experimenting with recording as young as 5 years old on a fisher price toy recorder with two small microphones and a tape deck. I got my first guitar on my 7th birthday, so music was always a big part of who I am and who I wanted to be. It was when I got to high school that I started taking music more seriously and considering it as a career. I performed at a few family events and entered the school talent show and that was really when I got hooked on the high performing on stage gave me. During my years in college at Jacksonville University, in Jacksonville, Florida I spent a lot of time developing my craft and really figuring out who I wanted to be as an artist, experimenting with different styles that ultimately shaped me into the artist I am today. I play, sing, rap, and play guitar, bass, drums, and keys (basically anything I can make noise with).
For those who are reading this and have never heard your music,
explain your sound in 5 words
Feel Good, Reggae/Hip-Hop Vibes
What other artists and/or musicians inspire you or your work and which you have learned from?
This is a tough question because I love all kinds of music and inspired by so many different influences - When I was young it was rock Limp Bizkit, Lincoln Park, Kid Rock - Then it was hip-hop Eminem, Jay-Z, Ludacris - Then I got into reggae music and Sublime, Rebelution, Slightly Stoopid, Pepper, and local Gloucester band Soul Rebel Project. I'm actually good friends with SRP, who happen to be one of my favorite bands as well. I've learned a lot from them over the past few years and lead singer, Mike Francis, and has helped with words of encouragement and guidance.
Where would you most like to perform?
Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, CO - one of the most amazing stages I've only ever seen in photos. I can only imagine the energy vibes at that place during a big show. Also, I'd like to play at Coachella, or SXSW just because of the stigma and excitement that surround those two events in the music world.
Who would you most like to open for?
I can check opening up for Soul Rebel Project off the bucket list as of 2016, we played with them at Thunder Road in Somerville, MA. BUT - any of the above mentioned influences would be unreal to share the stage with.
When did you experience your first stoke?
My first stoke was when my best friends dad, Larry, made me get up on the porch during a family block party with my friend's brothers band ironically named "The Influence" to sing/jam a song with them. I was about 15 and had never really performed before. I'll never forget that day and how it felt.
Best stoke to date?
When my band Over The Bridge won a poll this year hosted by The Middle East (Concert Venue) asking what local band they'd like to see open for reggae legends Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad on 4/20...It was unreal to see our name added to the poll and then to have Boston actually vote for us, and we held first place for the duration of the poll? I'd definitely have to say that was a HUGE stoke.
OTB Members: *Mike Forgette* - Rhythm/Vocals *Dave Campbell* - Lead Guitar/Vocals *Jared Rose* - Bass *Pat Farnham* - Drums *Frank Freedman* - Sax
What’s your motto or the advice you live by?
Be yourself, don't worry about what people think, or opinions on what you should do. Find what makes you happy, and hold on to it. Surround yourself with positivity and love because when you do the right things, for the right reasons, amazing things begin to happen.
What is your goal for your next big RESTOKE? Doing What?
My next big RESTOKE is coming in 2017. OTB heads into the studio this winter to work on our next album, and the goal is to hit the road on our first ever official tour in the Spring.
Ten years from now you will be….
An accomplished musician, a respected member of my community, a great husband, father and family man, a philanthropist, a positive influence on the world helping shape the youth for a better tomorrow by spreading love through music.
Follow OTB on your favorite social media pages to stay in tune with upcoming shows to see for yourself why Over The Bridge is one of the hottest rising bands out of Massachusetts and they’re just getting started.
